McLeod County Fair: the greatest exhibition around

Through their participation in the McLeod County Fair, area youth learn valuable lessons, such as patience and determination, which they will apply throughout their entire lives.

Now in its 137th year, the McLeod County Fair promises five days of good music, food, fun and games for all.

The 2009 fair runs Wednesday, Aug. 19, through Sunday, Aug. 23.

Rodeo riders won’t return this year. Instead, fairgoers will now get two nights of autocross (Wednesday and Saturday), two nights of motocross (Thursday and Friday), with a Sunday night demolition derby bringing a crashing conclusion to the grandstand entertainment.

Sunday afternoon will once again bring wrestling, in both full- and pint-sized form, and the ever-popular midway rides and games will thrill young and old.

Fairgoers can tour the many animal barns or the horticulture building, view the fine arts and 4-H exhibits, or reminisce while wandering through the antique tractor display. A variety of exhibitors in the commercial building offer fairgoers a wealth of information, giveaways and chances to win prizes. America’s Promise Stage is home to 4-H pet shows and area talent.

The McLeod County Fairgrounds are off State Highway 15 South, behind Wal-Mart on Century Avenue. The fair office number is (320) 587-2499. Check for a full schedule of events online at www.mcleodcountyfair.com. The fairgrounds is also the year-round home to the McLeod County Extension Service and McLeod County Parks.
